So, as my old friend wasabi_poptart pointed out, I've achieved, today, the answer to life the universe and everything. The question is still in flux.

It comes to mind, too, that in college, I finished writing a very, very badly-written book twenty one years ago, so that marks the midpoint of my life so far.

It's odd. The book was called "Amerika: A Mythography". It was bad. It was very bad. I even showed it to an established author, who consented to review the first chapter. It returned bloody with red ink, and halfway through, he gave up and said "I don't know what you're trying to do here, and if I don't, I don't think a lot of other people will, either." I tried re-reading it a while ago, and I couldn't get that far, even.

But a lot of what went into that book is still bugging me. My LJ-brain is currently boiling around aliettedb's post about U.S. tropes, and cecile_c's post on the same, and the Orson Scott Card bigotry issue. I'm also using postgresql to search through the Wikileaks cables and the Guantanamo files, getting confirmation on all the suspicions I had about certain policy issues. And then, slcard wished for me a notepad to capture the poem of life, and I thought that was a beautiful thought.

So let me sum up "Amerika: A Mythography" in short form:

Here's the thing about America.
It is a state of mind, not a nation.

She begins as Columbia.
She is standing on the beach, looking inland.
She is a fire of machinery and revolution.
She reaches for tomorrow, pushing the now behind her
with arms made of railway, highway, and light.
Blinded by the lamp she holds aloft,
She cannot see beyond the converging waters
that lap around her feet.

She ends with Sam,
Queen of all she surveys,
A democracy of one.
The convergence of all that rises.
A spherical mirror, to trap a flame
for ever and ever,

There is only one American.

And apparently another too-long day at Hospital results in missing the posting of a Hippie Birdbaths.

I suppose that's part of the answer, as well.

Perhaps. Thanks for the birdbath!
