Ha! In a piece of long fiction I'm shopping around, I borrowed some elements of the Filipino (i.e. largely Chinese) family structure, with formal titles for first daughter, second daughter, etc. One piece of feedback I received was "why did you add in all this irrelevant world building stuff? I mean, it's cool, but why is it necessary? Don't you think it would be confusing, since NOBODY has to deal with this kind of issue in the real world?"

Well, Kudos to you for learning the written language. Far too daunting for me. I used to work for a Viet-heavy NGO. At one point (thinking I could, I guess), two Viet speakers there asked me to read the wall calendar to see what my pronunciation was like. Whether I talked like Saigon or Hanoi, I think was the question. They laughed and laughed and never told me just WHAT I'd actually been saying. If anything.

Good luck with the crustaceans. Keep a pot of boiling water handy, you never know :p

I get "If that will aid him, then I have done ill". Don't know what that should mean, but apparently 2012 will be complicated :p

Yes, not very comforting at all, is it?

If our deadline hadn't just passed, I would have said that would make the perfect jumping off point for a story for the Journal of Unlikely Entomology's Valentine's Day issue :)

And one MORE attempt for me to write a sufficiently "buggy" story, getting sidetracked, and going down a completely different tangent.

IF (RIGHT(@soundex,2)='NT') SET @soundex=LEFT(@soundex, LEN(@soundex)-2) + 'TT'

I think this means I'm going to sound even more confused than ever on the subject ;)

Now if it had been a multi-insert statement ... or even a partition statement ...

Hm... If I was an interpreting sort, I'd have to say that you need to pay close attention to exactly what name you call out in the... ahem... throes, as it were.
