You Win a While, and then It's Done

Got a rejection from a competitive market that I always expect to get rejections from, and sure enough, the same form letter comes every time.

Except this time, on the bottom, was "P.S. I laughed."

Good sign, no? Funny how a little thing like that can make the difference between frustration and wanting to give up on a venue and taking it as a matter of course and looking forward to the next rejection.

Baa. Ram. Ewe.

In other news, I finally broke down and got a new laptop. I just can't do 90% of the things I need to do on a tablet, and I don't like having to leave the room and go down into the basement every time I want to jot something down or check on something.

As a consequence, I've fallen deeply and sincerely in love with solid-state hard drives. If you take all the little slices of life taken waiting for hard drives to spin up and for a machine to boot... it ain't insignificant. Let alone the fractures these little waits put on your concentration.

And not doing network analysis and other tech stuff in person anymore means being able to jettison a lot of useless hardware. Those twenty-five ounces also count, when you're walking down the three-mile causeway to your 'plane.

Plus, solid state drives will last longer than the stupid disk on my dead laptop which has died for the third time in four years (i'm not coming across as bitter, am I?)...

Me, too. I've had two other laptops in the past twelve years. I use them until they are literally falling apart. But hard drives and batteries? Seven each of them in the same time.

Same thing with our 2004 iPod. Still using it, but it's on its fourth hard drive and second battery. Luckily 20G 3.5" hard drives are around $15 apiece these days.

Wife has a new 11" Macbook Air with solid state drive. I might have to steal it.

Yes, I have a feeling that the reverse situation will happen here eventually.
