Syrian Cornflower

With the very dry spring and the high temperatures, the phlox was superabundant, tall, and now... gone. It's time to cut them back before powdery mildew sets in. Besides, they look like weird tentacled creatures from Space 1999. A lot like radishes or mustard that have gone to seed.

Anyhoo, I've got some of that to do. Been trying to recover the back yard from two years of neglect. I need to also get the kale down in the back plot so that we can have fresh greens in December. But the plot is... well. Phlox. And grass. And a three-foot tall rhubarb (I kid you not). And everything has bolted: last years' kale, the Good King Henry, the sorrel. The only thing we were able to keep on top of was the walking onions.

And rain tomorrow, so I don't need to water the allotment, but they're expecting another week of 0 precipitation, so definitely by next weekend.

LOL, Space 1999. The one time I ever wrote fanfic--decades before I knew what that term meant--it was for Space 1999. I was in seventh grade at the time.

Syrian Cornflower --won't work for your threadbare "cornflower blue eyes" metaphor.

After having a smoke at the 4/20 festival, his eyes were as pink as cornflowers.

Hey, I was terrified of that thing when I was sixish! And pink cornflowers are just fine for albinos!

So there! ;)
