Whatsit?

What could it be? Is that a vast bowl of raw kimchi about to be mixed? Why, yes, it is! And is that a 10-litre bucket to put it in? Why, yes indeed. And this (note the time) was before starting on blanching the swiss chard, all double-arm-bundle of it all. But it was necessary. Saturday, a seller I know at the market gave me her four large and exuberant napa cabbages in exchange for making kimchi, so it was duty calling (and it had already sat salted overnight and was ready to go). Then, Sunday, we went to our plot and harvested said chard.

Now I am a tired boy, and it's very hot and humid in the house, and the dog's been taken out to wee, and it's time to rinse off in the shower before lying under the fan and hoping to get some sleep.

But I did get on LJ to find this bit of pleasing. Thanks, Jaime!

You're the second on my friends list this year to make some kimchee--I should say, the second to blog about it (maybe EVERYONE is doing it but not confessing). It makes my mouth water, thinking about it.

If the end result is delicious, please share the recipe!

And congratulations on winning Jaime's contest! I hadn't been following the prompts recently (or reading the entries), but that's a wonderful poem.

Oh, yeah. If I could live off it, I would. Anyway, desperance asked a while back, and google knows where I put it, so the recipe is here: http://barry-king.livejournal.com/52074.html

Thanks on the poem. I really feel like I've got the core of something there. I need to develop it some more and send it out. I don't know a lot of SF (Capitol S) poetry venues other than Star*Line, though. SH is a given, and I love ASIM. Any other suggestions?

Apex? They've published great poems. Ideomancer publishes poems. I'll think of some others...

Apex and poems? Dur. Of course. Very SFnal. I've got one coming out in Ideomancer "real soon nowtm". Most of the venues I know are mythic or delerious.

Oh, and the Kimchi -- My discovery last year or sommat is to add some of that "clam juice" that comes in bottles as well. It gives it a sweet note.

Well, and speaking of deliriously mythic places, Mythic Delirium does publish SF poems as well. In fact, one of their Rhysling winners from the recent past was SF.

I will make a note of the clam juice!
