So, if a story gets "Honorable Mention" in Writers of the Future, is that a gentle pat on the back, or is it something that you should mention when you submit it to a pro 'zine?

Thanks. That's what I figured.

I don't know, so I'd defer to the poster above. But - I want to say congrats! I'm sure they get a lot of submissions, so it's worth celebrating.

I once knew a professional writer who when I was disappointed I had won third place in a contest said to me, "I couldn't even place in that contest. Those things are hard!" :) Enjoy every victory.

I must sound like sour grapes. It's not that. I'm just not sure what a "honourable mention" is when it comes to WotF vis. your average prozine slush reader.

It's more than a gentle pat on the back. It's a good thing, but I would not bother to mention it if you submit it later to a 'zine. What I mean is I don't think it will help. Editors mostly don't give a flip what other editors/publishers have said about a story. They want to make up their own mind.

True. Although if it were a finalist or a prize-winner, I think it might make them take a closer look.

Congrats on the honorable mention :)

That said, I don't think you should put that on your submission letter. They'll either like it or they won't.

Just my 2 cents'

Thank you, and, yes, I think you're right.
